Artist Statement:

The photographers in our club are always looking for ways to strengthen their storytelling, and their ability to take the viewer into the story they are creating with their image. “Framing” is a powerful technique for guiding the eye of the viewer. Framing can help the draw the viewer into the image. It can also create mystery and depth, making the image more compelling.

Eleven club photographers have produced a diverse collection of “framed” images from instantly recognizable exotic locales to regional landscapes. They also countered the man-made with the natural world where trees and rocks frame the view.

About the artists:

The New Westminster Photography Club (NWPC) is a collective of about 50 amateur photographers. Our members have a range backgrounds and experience, from those who are early in their photographic learning, to several members with considerable experience and recognition.

The NWPC was started in 1948 by a handful of colour slide enthusiasts. Although the interest in colour slides waned long ago, the club has prevailed by staying current with trends and technology in the photographic medium.

The NWPC provides a number of opportunities for members to find an audience for their work by encouraging them to participate in exhibitions and competitions. The club hosts its own competitions, but also encourages members to enter regional and national competitions.

As well, members are encouraged to post their photographs on the club’s website and the NWPC-created Facebook group New West Photography Friends. This latter platform is a private group, but membership is open to Club members and anyone interested in photography in the region
